Icon Book Project Feedback

We were given our feedback by Tracy last wednesday and because me and my friend had hired out studio time to film for another brief, she gave us a quick summary of the good and not so good parts and told us to email her for any help if we needed.

To be honest, I went in thinking that I would probably just get a pass as I didn’t particularly understand the essay section and hoped that the effort that I put into it as well as my Icon Book design would help me scrape through. So when she handed me my feedback and saw that I had a First, 85/100, I was somewhat flabbergasted.

I left her office feeling proud of myself, not just for acquiring a First, but for handing in a piece of work that I know I had worked hard on. Spencer’s lectures can be quite intense in both length and content and I often find myself reading over his notes time and time again just to make it sink in better, so to find that what I had read and understood from him helped my essay drastically, really boosted my confidence in the analytical aspect of the course.

The Adventures of Sigmund & Jean (Icon Book)

I uploaded my Icon Book work to ISSUU so that you can actually view it as a booklet instead of in a PDF format. I much prefer this way of viewing as you can read it as I designed it, in a comic book way.

It was a lot of fun designing and drawing this booklet and i’m pretty pleased with the results!

Icon Book Progress

I haven’t been as work focussed and on form over winter vacation (understandable, I hope) but of course I have been plugging my way through all set work and research. I haven’t posted on here for a while so thought I would share a preview of my Icon book work for Spencer. The deadline is 20th January 2014 but plan on submitting it early this coming week.

For my Icon Book work I decided to form it as if my two chosen theorists, Jean Baudrillard and Sigmund Freud – two people who have very different approaches to life – are having a chance conversation due to Freud taking some experimental medicine that takes him to the future to meet Baudrillard. I chose this opening storyline as it incorporates Freud’s background and allows me to create it in a similar way to an actual comic book.

My progress with this work is slow, however i’m really enjoying it and pushing my abilities, for example I HATE drawing people. It is my weakness!

After doing a bit more research, I decided to go forward with Jean Baudrillard as i’ve used him as influence in previous projects so find myself knowing a lot more about him and enjoying his theories.
