Taxonomy of Trash

The Taxonomy of Trash Home Page

The Taxonomy of Trash was created by a group of artists gathered at the Revolutionary Recovery Recycling Centre in Philadelphia  to participate in a program called RAIR. The idea to create a taxonomy of trash came about when they realised that there was beauty within the piles of mess and that it needed to be categorised, photographed and recorded. You can read more about all the various artists and their specialities on their website here.

The trash that they collected was categorised accordingly and then presented in two different taxonomies: Everything Blue and 100 Found Objects. I genuinely love the whole idea of using rubbish as a collection, “One man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure” is the phrase that comes to mind.
